Authorized by Congress and issued by the U.S. Mint, Commemorative Medals honor significant historical events of the nation, or to honor those persons whose superior deeds and achievements have enriched our history, or the world.  They are miniature replicas of Congressional Authorized Gold Medals presented to individuals for notable achievements, including medals honoring military heroes; American and world leaders and statesmen; contributions to American arts and culture; pioneers of flight; achievements in science and medicine; Secretaries of Treasury; and Chief Justices of the Supreme Court.  When legislation permits, bronze duplicates are struck.  The Merrick Mint then enhances each commemorative medal coin with its unique colorization process, which beautifies the significance of the coin.
